Hi loves,
Haven’t done one of these in a while (aka, it’s long overdue) so…here’s some more book reviews (this was originally supposed to be up in August but it’s now October so uh…that’s how late it is). Enjoy!

Gone Girl – Gillian Flynn
4/5 Stars

I picked up this book probably over a year ago now and never got around to reading it because every time I looked at it I thought eh…maybe another time. As I was going on holiday I thought I may as well take it with me because that would be as good a time as any to read it and boy I was not disappointed. This book is amazing. I only gave it 4 stars because I save 5s the for books that really impact me (the books that you know, change my life) but otherwise this would definitely be a 5 star. I donโt know why but I donโt usually ever venture into this genre (even though I really like it ?? Whereโs the logic Chloe) but it was such a page turner and I was hooked. Not once did it become boring or uninteresting, it had just the right amount of everything and Iโd really recommend it for anyone wanting to venture into this genre. Iโll definitely be reaching for more books like this in future – I didn’t think I’d enjoy it because of how popular it became (popular things are usually over-hyped and end up being not that great) but with this I was pleasantly surprised! I absolutely loved it.

I hope this reaches her in time – R. H. Sin

Guys, I think Iโm done with the sappy poetry for now. This book was literally ยฃ4 so I thought why not, and then I read it and thoughtโฆwhy. Thereโs literally nothing to say about this book other than itโs the usual one line Tumblr poetry you see plastered all over the internet. Thing is, this isnโt even a book because itโs probably about 1cm thick soโฆthis leaflet is nothing out of the ordinary from what you already see on the internet already. I think Iโm done with the clichรฉ poetry about heartbreak.

What I Thought Was True – Huntley Fitzpatrick
2/5 Stars

Whenever I go on holiday I always like to take some light fluffy reads with me and Huntley Fitzpatrick is a great author for this. I read her two other books – the duology ofย My Life Next Door and The Boy Most Likely To and really enjoyed them, so I thought that when I went on holiday this year I’d purchase the other book of hers that I hadn’t read yet – What I Thought Was True. I don’t know if it’s because this was the first novel she ever released or if I’m simply getting too old for YA fluff novels, but this just didn’t do it for me. It was okay. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either, it was kind of just neutral. Some parts irritated me and I found that the actual setting was incredibly boring, I didn’t feel like I wanted to get lost in the world inside this book because honestly, it felt dull. It was like nothing wasย happening…there was no point to it. A lot of things didn’t even make sense, I kept getting confused and bleh. I also didn’t really feel much for any of the characters and therefore wasn’t invested in any of them and a lot of the things (especially the boys) were extremely cliche. I just wasn’t feeling it. Like I said, I don’t know if it’s because this was her first novel and therefore she hadn’t reached her full potential yet or simply because YA fluff just doesn’t do it for me anymore, but there was a huge thing missing here for me. I think I’m kind of done with cliche YA love stories now…probably would’ve enjoyed this book when I was 16 but unfortunately not now.

Let me know if you’ve read any of these!

All my love,

I have heard so much about Gone Girl but never read it so will definitely have to check it out now! I have read one of Huntley’s books, The Boy Most Likely To, and absolutely loved it. I should probably check out some of their other books. I would recommend On The Fence by Kaisie West to read next if you enjoyed Huntley’s books. xx

Ahhh you will love it!! Such a gripping story, definitely a page turner. I really enjoyed The Boy Most Likely To (I think that’s my favourite out of that and The Boy Next Door) but this one was such a letdown in comparison…I’m not giving up though! Will add On The Fence to my list! Thank you xx

I don’t know why but modern-day poetry, at least the works that are getting the most attention, annoys the hell out of me. WHY IS IT BEING PUBLISHED?! Don’t get me long, as a poetry lover and writer myself, I love that the idea of poetry only being associated with the works of Shakespeare or Poe is slowly evaporating. Poetry is in a stage of reinvention. And for the most part I applaud this but there is a line. There is so much bad poetry out there today and young people are making it into their live’s philosophy. “Instagram poetry” is NOT poetry. It is rewritten Tumblr lines quotes with a paragraph after each word. Writing poetry, stringing words and phrases together requires a lot more thought, it’s an art form. Where has that art gone?

Ahhhh you said it YOU SAID IT. Hit the nail on the head! It’s so…I just hope that people in our generation don’t believe that this is poetry because it isn’t, it has no feeling or thought or just…anything. It’s sad. Like you said, I’m glad poetry is evolving in that sense but please, at least make sure it’s real, not just something you copied and pasted of a website based on aesthetics…you know? Couldn’t agree with you more. Your rants are always appreciated !! Thanks angel xx
