A quarantine book haul 📚

Hello my loves,

Due to the fact that the world is under lockdown at the moment, I took this as a great opportunity to buy….you guessed it, even more books. I say this in every haul but, I really need to stop buying so many, but I’m just too obsessed. I can’t help it. Books are everything. I’m now on a mission to buy the physical books that I want to display on my shelves and that express who I am as a reader, so all of these books are beautiful and I’ve wanted to own them for a while now, and I finally got around to doing it! I’m taking this time during lockdown to basically spend every day reading and I’m definitely not complaining about it because it’s like heaven to me. I have actually already read 3 of the books in this post (reviews coming soon) because I simply just could not wait and I’m so happy with them because I feel like I’ve been reading so many good books lately, I’m on like…a book high. I love reading so many good books in a row !! I feel like I accomplished something by picking out great books for myself, it’s almost like I knew what I was going to enjoy reading…

Let’s get into the haul.

Harry Potter
Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire
J.K. Rowling

(yes that is a vmin bookmark for all you fellow BTS fanatics)

I already wrote this section out once and it deleted itself which I’m annoyed about so apologies if this sounds rushed (but I’m too lazy to write the same extensive thing out twice). So, if you’ve been following my reading journey lately, I finally at the grand old age of 22 decided to read Harry Potter. I read the first two books on Kindle for free and then discovered that it was actually cheaper for me to buy the following 2 books in physical copy rather than carry on with Kindle. It was literally £1 cheaper for me to read book 3 on Kindle than it was for me to buy both books 3 and 4 in paperback so it was a no brainer what I was going to do. I wasn’t really fussed about owning the entire Harry Potter collection so it didn’t bother me that I was going randomly have books 3 & 4 sitting on myself with 1 & 2 nowhere in site.

Upon books 3 & 4 arriving at my house I was absolutely mesmerised by the covers, they are so beautiful !!! Instantly I was like okay I need books 1 & 2 now as well even though I’d already read them, but the covers were so gorgeous I just had to have them, I wasn’t expecting it at all. Look how beautiful they are !! As you can see in the photo, I have a bookmark in Prisoner of Azkaban (which I have since finished – review coming soon) and will be onto Goblet of Fire next. I’m excited to carry on the journey!

Where The Crawdads Sing – Delia Owens

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

This book has been floating around for a while now and the second I saw the cover I knew I wanted to read it. It’s so beautiful. The colours are just amazing, I love those shades of pink so much. The contrast of the front cover to the synopsis of the book is really interesting to me and I have a feeling this is going to be a book that I’ll really enjoy. It feels like the book that everyone of all ages is reading at the moment and seemingly loving, so I’m super excited to get started on it.

Edit: since writing this post I have in fact read the book and all I can say is…I can’t remember the last time I ever read something so beautiful. I’m speechless.

The Starless Sea – Erin Morgenstern

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

AAAAAAAAAHHHH. AHH !!! LOOK AT IT. Let’s not beat around the bush here – the second I saw the front cover of this book, I knew I had to own it. Everyone and their grandma is raving about this book lately and it was a party I more than wanted to join. I haven’t read the Night Circus so this will be my first experience of Erin Morgenstern but after seeing the cover of The Starless Sea I knew I wanted to read it at some point soon. Fast forward to me going on (yet another) beautiful book-buying spree, this was the first book that came to mind because imagining it in all its glory on my shelf was a thought I very much liked – upon it arriving I was just…mesmerised. This was the book I was definitely most excited to get, the pages inside it are like silk. I’m not kidding. Oh I just love it so much. I’m so excited to read it !!

Dear Edward – Ann Napolitano

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

I’ve seen this one floating around a lot recently and so it was at the forefront of my mind when thinking of new books to buy, it’s very quickly picking up popularity (it has a lot already) so I think it’ll be the next big thing everyone’s talking about. The cover is very beautiful yet simple and the synopsis sounds even more interesting, I think it’ll be a sweet, emotional story that I’ll very much enjoy and I can’t wait to read it. It’s actually quite a small little book despite being a hardback which I didn’t expect but hopefully that means I can get through it super quick, it’s definitely one of the next ones on my TBR list!

Edit: since writing this post I have in fact read this book (review coming soon) and…oh my goodness. I really loved it. It was heartbreakingly beautiful.

Truly Devious – Maureen Johnson

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

I have seen this book all over booktube for the longest time now and so I’ve always known about it, but never really considered buying it myself. However, on my little book spree I saw it (the hardback) for a really good price and thought I’d be silly not to buy it and so, here we are. I have actually always liked the look of this as a hardback and as this is the first in the Truly Devious trilogy, I figured that if I liked it (which I think I will) and therefore wanted to buy the others, they’d all look very nice together on my shelf.

Beautiful Broken Things – Sara Barnard

When I was doing this haul I went through my TBR list and thought hm, which books have been on here for a while that I’d like to physically own, and this was one of them. There’s different book covers that I always remember and this is one that sticks in my head, so I decided to finally go ahead and buy it. This is the book I’ll be reading next (I’ll have probably started it by the time this post goes up) and I really hope I like it. It’s been on my TBR for a couple of years now so maybe my tastes will have changed in the meantime but, I’m still looking forward to it.

And there we have it loves! As always I hope you’re all well and are staying safe during this time, and I hope boredom isn’t killing you too much. If anyone ever wants to talk you know where I am 💗

All my love,

Chloe .xx

    1. Thank you! I read Eleanor Oliphant a couple of years ago and really loved it, it was so funny and heartwarming. I haven’t read anything by Sara Bernard before so this will be my first book by her but I really hope I love it. Hope you’re doing well and staying safe! 💞x

    1. Ahh I’m so excited to read them. Super interested to hear what you think about Where The Crawdads sing as well, I can’t see myself reading anything else this year that will top it!

  5. Ahh I want books. I only have one physical book left (The Secret Garden) and its something I can finish in one day so I am moving towards E-books. Btw try this app called Anybooks. You can get (almost) any book you want for free. I just started reading the Little Prince and will complete it tomorrow!
Anyways, Stay Safe. Heard England isn’t doing great. India too has reached about 4000 cases. J-Hope this mess is fixed.
(Love that Vmin bookmark lol. Where did u get it?)

    1. I couple of months ago I fished my Kindle back out of my cupboard and have been obsessed with reading on it since! It’s definitely increased the amount of reading I’m doing as it means I can have an electronic and physical book on the go at the same time hehe. Will definitely check out Anybooks, I haven’t heard of it before! The Little Prince is such a beautiful book, I love it so much, I’m sure you will too. The Vmin bookmark was gifted to me so I’m not sure where it’s from! I think it was from a fan event, it’s not supposed to be a bookmark (I think it’s just a photo-strip thing) but I use it as a bookmark anyway haha. Hope you’re staying safe too, yes things are getting a little bad here! Scary times but hopefully things will be over before we know it .xx

  6. I read Harry Potter for the first time when I was just a little bit older than you. I had just had my first child and the movie for Philosopher’s (or Sorcerer’s s as it’s titled over here) had just come out on DVD. After watching the movie I knew I needed to read the books. They are still to this day on of my favorite book series of all time. I loved the twists and turns, and I also loved the author. Her personal journey to becoming a writer really inspired me to get more serious about my own dream of writing.

I have heard about Where the Crawdads Sing (I think I wrote that right) more than once so I think I’ll have to read that one soon!!!

Thanks for the book recommendations! I needed some new ideas!

    1. Ahh how nostalgic !! I hear so many people talk about it as such a cosy series and one that makes them feel really safe, which I think is a wonderful thing. Where The Crawdads Sing was just…perfect in every way, I cannot believe it was a debut novel !! I pray she writes more in future because I think I may have just found my new favourite author .xx

    1. Ahh I always feel like I’m late to the party on so many good series but there’s always a silver lining when it means I don’t have to wait in-between !! I hope I love it too, I really think I will! xx

  7. I have the original Harry Potter covers from when they were first published so it is so weird seeing the new covers. Reminds me of when they re-did all the Famous Five book covers and I ended up having half of the books with one design and half of the books with the new design… not aesthetically pleasing at all!! I don’t understand why they cannot just keep the same covers?! xx

    1. Oh that must be so nice though to have the originals! I swear there’s still new covers and versions coming out left right and centre for Harry Potter and other classic series like that, I guess it’s to still keep the magic alive (no pun intended) and to make newer readers want to keep reading them! xx

        1. I can agree with that! I think as time goes on, people are going to be more intrigued by vibrant, modern covers that interest them to a point they’ll want to read the book, whereas the older versions are still kept in print for the nostalgia and the collectors xx
